Welcome to Australian Grand Prix!

The Australian Grand Prix is a four-day Formula One race event held being a part of the championship season of the said race. Australia has been a part of F1 and is included in their numerous destinations every year. The Albert Park in Melbourne was the home for the 2007 Australian Grand Prix which has ING (ING Groep N.V.) as the naming rights sponsor for the said race in a three-year deal. The event includes a wide array of entertainment like V8 Supercaps, V8 Utes, Qantas Jet Flyover and a BMW Celebrity Challenge for all Formula One enthusiasts.

Australia had been a part of the Formula One Championships in the year 1985 which was then held in Adelaide not until 1996 when it was moved to Albert Park in Melbourne. Considered as the second largest city in Australia, Melbourne was then termed as “a great place for the race” not to mention the good weather condition the place has. Way back when the race was still in Adelaide, it has always been the last race of the F1 season. When the race transferred to Melbourne, it has been the first race of the season in every year since 1996 except in the year 2006 when it was the third then due to the Commonwealth Games in the said city. Albert Park in Melbourne has witnessed the debut of a number of prominent names in the racing industry. Jacques Villeneuve made his race debut in the year 1996 in Melbourne and became a World Champion a year after. Some well-known personalities in the Formula One racing championships also had their first appearances in Melbourne like two-time World Champion Fernando Alonso, Juan Pablo Montoya and Kimi Räikkönen in 2001, including Australia’s Mark Webber in 2002. Michael Schumacher, on the other hand, is considered to be the most successful driver in the Grand Prix history. After his retirement, the Melbourne race will then initiated by David Coulthard, Rubens Barrichello and Giancarlo Fisichella.
